FAQ

A warm welcome to Kind Mynd Psychology. Below you’ll find answers to common questions about how I work, what to expect, and how to get started.

Who do you work with?

I work with adults who are navigating a wide range of life experiences. These might include trauma, complex PTSD, or dissociation; eating disorders and body image concerns; anxiety, panic, and chronic stress; or hormonal and mood-related difficulties such as PMDD.

At the heart of my work is a trauma-informed, neuroaffirming, and anti-diet approach. I take time to understand your full story — not just symptoms, and I aim to hold space for all parts of you with warmth, curiosity, and respect.

What kind of therapy do you offer?

I use a blend of evidence-based, relational, and compassion-focused therapies. Most of my work draws from:

  • EMDR therapy to process trauma and stuck emotional patterns

  • Schema Therapy and parts work to explore underlying beliefs and emotional needs

  • Self-compassion practices to support emotional safety and healing

I also integrate tools from CBT, ACT, and DBT to support emotion regulation, behaviour change, and day-to-day coping when needed.

My therapy style tends to be medium- to long-term, which gives us the time and space to build trust and explore deeper patterns at a pace that feels right for you.

How much do sessions cost?

My fee for a standard 50-minute individual therapy session is $240.

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, you can receive a Medicare rebate of $98.95, which brings your out-of-pocket cost down to $141.05. Under this plan, you may be eligible for up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year.

If you are receiving treatment for an eating disorder and are eligible for an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDP), you may be able to access up to 40 rebated sessions per year.

Fees are paid in full on the day of your session, and rebates are processed separately after that.

Do I need a referral to start therapy?

You don’t need a referral to book an appointment, many people choose to self-refer and attend sessions privately.

However, if you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need to see your GP beforehand for either a Mental Health Care Plan or an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan. Your GP can talk you through which one is the best fit for your needs.

What is an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDP)?

An EDP is a type of Medicare-supported care plan designed for people diagnosed with an eating disorder. It gives you access to:

  • Up to 40 psychology sessions per calendar year

  • Up to 20 dietetic sessions per calendar year

To access this plan, your GP or psychiatrist will complete a structured assessment to determine your eligibility.

Do you work as part of a care team for eating disorder support?

Yes, absolutely. I believe that eating disorder support is most effective, and safest when it’s shared across a team.

Eating disorders are complex and can have significant impacts on both physical and mental health. While I offer therapeutic support for the emotional, relational, and psychological aspects of recovery, I’m not a medical professional and I can’t safely hold the full responsibility of this work alone.

For that reason, I ask that all clients engaging in eating disorder therapy with me are also actively connected with:

  • A regular GP who can provide ongoing medical monitoring, and

  • A broader care team as needed, such as a dietitian, psychiatrist, or another mental health clinician

This shared care approach means:

  • Your physical health is being supported alongside your emotional wellbeing

  • You have access to a full circle of care

  • I can work within my scope in a way that is ethical, grounded, and safe, for both of us

If you’re not currently linked in with a GP or team, that’s okay. We can talk through some options together, and you’re also welcome to explore the ANZAED Clinician Directory to find Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinicians in your area.

I understand that building a care team can take time, and I’ll support you through that process. For us to continue working together, it’s important that these supports are in place.

What is your cancellation policy?

I understand that life can be unpredictable. We all get sick, overwhelmed, or unexpectedly caught up sometimes. At the same time, your session time is set aside just for you and when cancellations happen with little notice, it’s often too late to offer that spot to someone else who might be waiting for care.

To help protect the sustainability of my practice and support fairness for all clients, the following cancellation policy applies:

  • If you provide more than 2 business days’ notice (Monday–Friday), there is no fee

  • If you cancel or reschedule within 2 business days, 50% of the session fee will apply

  • If you cancel within 1 business day or don’t attend your session, the full session fee will apply

This policy is applied consistently and kindly, unless there’s a serious emergency. Thank you for understanding the importance of keeping this boundary clear it helps me continue offering care in a way that’s sustainable and grounded.

Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes, I offer secure, online therapy for clients across Australia.

Telehealth can be a really helpful option if you’re managing chronic illness, dealing with sensory overload, juggling a busy schedule, or simply prefer the comfort of being at home. Many of my clients choose online therapy and find it just as effective and connecting as in-person sessions.

How do I get started?

I currently offer therapy sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, between 8:00am and 3:00pm.

If you’d like to enquire about booking, please feel free to email me or use the contact form on my website. It’s helpful if you can include a few details, such as:

  • What you’re hoping to work on in therapy

  • Your general availability

  • How often you’d like to attend sessions (for example, weekly or fortnightly)

Once I receive your enquiry, I’ll do my best to get back to you within 72 business hours. From there, we can talk through the next steps, answer any questions, and make sure we’re a good fit to work together.

Do you offer crisis support?

I don’t offer crisis or emergency support as part of my private practice.

If you are in crisis or need immediate help, please contact:

  • Lifeline on 13 11 14

  • Emergency Services on 000

  • Or visit your nearest hospital Emergency Department

You matter, and you deserve timely support that matches what you’re needing.
